POP YEARS

This era was defined by insane growth, the stuff not usually reserved for a scrappy underground techno label.

The era was marked by gold records, high rotation commercial radio play, deals with the majors, award shows, international touring and songs being placed on ad campaigns for Cadillac, video games Assasin’s Creed and tv shows Californiacation and then some.

I guess it was the big leagues by then. It all started with a friend of mine making a record for an electronic label that ended up passing on it because he put guitars on it. This was just pre- LCD Soundsystem.

We were both broke. Like broke, broke. I told him I could put it out instead. He cried, I didn’t know why.
Now I get it. The world changed for almost two decades because of that moment.

I was just trying to be nice, but, we were both ready to be more than solely DJ’s by then.
We ate cake. And eventually chicken with Amy Winehouse in Texas.

Long story, good times. Strange days, bands, good times.
